A wild mind
My name is Serena, I am 32 years old and I live on the slopes of the highest active volcano in Europe, Etna. I’m from Basilicata, a slice of my heart where I always find the dimension of everything.
It is my soul place where I go to take refuge for a few months a year. Always passionate about wild travels, trekking, nature, Taoist meditation and islands. Behold, the islands have changed my approach to life and undoubtedly also to my photography.
I became passionate about this wonderful art form during my university period, I have a degree in literature. I bought my first Reflex camera with the scholarship money and fell in love with it since. After completing my studies, I began to seriously undertake the profession of photographer and after years of study, dedication, training and passion, here I am. Photography is the most authentic approach I could look for of life.
I am a seeker of souls …free.
For several years now, photography has become my travelling companion. I have always believed that it has an immeasurable communicative capacity, since its language is universally understandable, managing to break down cultural and linguistic barriers, aiming straight at the heart of those who observe it.
I imagine that every photographer, when he captures moments, goes in search of himself and I try to do the same: I wait the best light, I wait for it to bring out those details, that element that I have identified, giving them all the majesty, the iridescence that only nature can give. I wait patiently, I expect, I try to capture the moments of the time that runs free. I know that I cannot enclose time in a photo, and it is precisely for this reason that when I shoot I go in search of an image that instills serenity, freedom, as if time still flows inside it through the look of its observers.
In my photographic works I want that change can be perceived, that metamorphosis that myself perceive with passing of the minutes, of the hours, that sense of freedom that I feel when I decide to take a photo.
I have not yet been able to give an absolute definition of what photography is for me. One thing is for sure, through it I looking for myself. Taking photos makes me “Serena”.
I make my wedding reportages in Sicily and Lucania.
